[sc:top_left_adsense300x250_1] A perfectionist who built upon his performances to set world records, Jay Silvester’s event was the Discus where he broke the sixty metre barrier before going on to break the 70 metre barrier. He competed at four Olympics, and despite holding the records at the time he was unable to secure Gold. One of this celebrity Mormon’s trademarks was his wild leg swing prior to the throw, which likely played a factor in his long distance throws. He continued to improve on his record and mentored Mac Wilkins who went on to earn Gold.
